Joe began his career as an attorney in San Francisco, practicing in California and Federal court. In 2003, he achieved a life-long dream and joined the U.S. Secret Service as a Special Agent in the San Francisco Field Office, investigating fraud, threat, and terrorism-related cases, and working protection assignments throughout the United States.
In 2009, Joe was selected for the Secret Service Counter Assault Team and relocated to Washington, D.C., where he provided tactical support for the President, Vice President, and other protectees traveling to high-threat regions worldwide. He later served in the Presidential Protective Division, from 2013 through 2016. During his time in Washington D.C., he coordinated security operations for several high-profile events and international visits, including assignments in 21 different countries.
Joe moved to the Secret Service Chicago Field Office at the end of 2016. There, he transitioned to cyber fraud investigations, investigating complex cases involving ransomware, business email compromise, network intrusion, and cryptocurrency-related crimes. He was promoted in April 2018, and oversaw several investigative squads, including overseeing training for new agents and the Chicago Field Office’s warrant execution team. Throughout his time in Chicago, Joe supervised protection visits in Chicago and throughout the United States, including supervising portions of the 2020 Presidential Campaign, the 2023 APEC Summit, and the 2024 Presidential Campaign. During his final three years with the Secret Service, Joe supervised the Chicago Cyber Fraud Task Force, overseeing cyber investigations, digital forensics operations, and partnerships with more than 400 public and private sector organizations. He led investigations that coordinated international arrests of cyber criminals, and recovered over $150 million in stolen funds.
After retiring from government service in 2025, Joe joined BDO Cyber as Director of Cybersecurity, where he conducted cybersecurity assessments, advised client executive leadership, and provided cyber fraud incident response across multiple industries. In 2026, he founded his own security consulting firm to provide organizations with strategic security expertise and support.
Joe remains a licensed attorney in California and holds both CISSP and Certified Chief Information Security Officer (C-CISO) certifications.
